It's all going so fast now! My last day at work is tomorrow and then it's off to training in Indiana on Friday morning, then packing, packing, packing...I'll be living in Mexico in 2 weeks!
If you get chance, take a look around the site! I've been working hard to update all the pages: there are new prayer requests on the
participate page, a link to my Facebook profile on the
contact page and I even just added a video on the
multimedia page (thank you Dave!).
Let me know what you think? Is there anything you would like me to add to the site?
There's an account in the Bible of a rich young ruler who approaches Jesus and asks him what he needs to do to be saved... Jesus tells him "sell all that you possess..." and the man turns away.
When I learned this story in Sunday School, I remember this almost pity-like feeling for the obviously unspiritual and misguided young man who couldn't part with his things. I mean, who would turn away from Jesus because they couldn't part with their JUNK?
Then I realized that part of my adventure would involve selling all of my things.
This week of going through my stuff and selling most of of it has left me a lot more sympathetic to the young ruler. The idea of selling my things always seemed like it would be so much easier, I mean, I'm not owned by my stuff, right?
Then you actually start doing it...you go through all of your things and you remember when you bought this thing or who gave you that thing and the laughs you had while sitting in that chair and the tears you cried while holding that pillow and you start to realize that it's going to be harder than you thought. That maybe it's not even all about the "stuff" that you are selling (just as it wasn't for the rich young ruler) but more about whether or not I can trust God...even when I don't have all my "stuff" to make me feel safe and secure.
It's been hard to blog recently because it makes me cry.
When I start to think about all the people and things that I am saying goodbye to, the feeling of loss is almost overwhelming. I walk into an empty living room, open empty cabinets, stare at empty shoes shelves (seriously...EMPTY SHOE SHELVES) and I say goodbye to people every day.
But, it's in those moments that I realize I really am on an adventure and even though it's not always easy...I trust that it's worth it.
Everything must go!
It's really happening! I'm moving to Mexico to teach 5th an 6th grade and I need to sell all of my things...and I need to sell them FAST. So, I'm having an estate sale! This Wednesday, July 22nd from 5pm till everything is sold!

I received the official acceptance email from CMF today! I'm officially a missionary associate...now the countdown really begins. I've been hired by the school, as I type this my apartment is being furnished in Mexico and now I get to begin the support raising process.
I'll head out to Indiana at the beginning of August for a very brief training session and a quick trip to visit my Kentucky family and then it's off to Mexico.
This is so awesome.
What a crazy weekend. It seems that my already packed schedule has hit a previously unachievable level of busyness now that I am in the final weeks of my time in the states.
Highlights from the 1000 Mile Weekend:
- Spent the first part of the weekend at Cape Lookout camping with my small group. There's nothing like a camping trip at the beach with good friends.
- Had a great time with the Ginther Family (and co) over the 4th. It was fun to have little kids to light sparklers and watch fireworks with. Thank you guys for sharing your kids (and your home!).
- The volunteer appreciation breakfast and service in the park went really well. Baptism weekends always make me emotional and this one was no exception, it was really, really amazing. Check out the pictures here.
- Finally, I made a quick trip to Joseph, OR with my friend Cori. 12 hours of driving (and talking!) crammed into a 27 hour trip.
No wonder I'm tired.
How's the Mexico timeline coming? Well, I finished my application for CMF (the agency I hope to be working for in Mexico) and will overnight that packet today. I've gotta be honest, It's slightly nerve wracking to fill out all the life history and psychological questionnaires, it'll be interesting to see the next step in the process when everything is reviewed and all the scores come in.
I've also (tentatively) set a date for my "Adios Raquel" BBQ and garage sale (I'm selling everything!). Mark your calendars for July 25th and watch for more details, if you are able/willing to help on that day with the garage sale or the BBQ...please leave a comment below!
I received an email today from the president of the board and have been officially offered the 5th/6th grade teaching position.
I think I'm going to accept it :)
Haha. Who am I kidding, of course I am going to accept it.
Ladies and Gentlemen...I'm moving to Mexico.
